I live in Los Angeles and write about books and whatever you want to call it: nature, the environment, life on Earth. You can read me in the LA Times, the Guardian, the TLS, the LA Review of Books, and elsewhere. I also write letters about place and learning to live with the sense of elsewhere, something that dogs me and apparently lots of other modern humans too. You can subscribe and read past letters here. And I translate from Spanish, too.
I grew up in southeast London and graduated from University College London with a first-class degree in English Language and Literature, then King's College London, with an MA with distinction in English 1850 to the Present. I later worked as an editor at Hesperus Press in London, Time Out magazine in Buenos Aires, and Melville House in Brooklyn. I've been lucky enough to work on great books, from bestsellers to cult classics.
